Steven: Underdogs have dominated in these playoffs, and — SPOILER ALERT! — I think that trend continues.

Charles: Betting against Nick Foles and Blake Bortles turned out to be the wrong call. What a crazy weekend!

Jaguars at Patriots (-9) (O/U: 46)

Steven: I understand not wanting to bet on Blake Bortles going up against a Bill Belichick team. It’s almost blasphemous to do so. But, I’m going to make an exception here because Jacksonville is a terrible matchup for New England. That defense is going to give Tom Brady problems, and Leonard Fournette should have a big day whether the Patriots load up the box or not. New England wins a close one. I’ll say 23-17.

Charles: If the Jags can put up 45 points — 45 POINTS — against the Steelers, who have a better defense than the Patriots, then can they repeat that again? The X-factor here, naturally, is Bill Belichick. He’ll find a way to keep Leonard Fournette relatively grounded and to force Bortles into throwing a ton. It’s the flip side that should have Belichick concerned: Can his team’s offense find a way against the stout Jacksonville secondary? Ultimately, I think the Pats emerge with a win, but I suspect it’s closer than nine, something like a 24-20 victory, which means I’ll take the under as well.

Vikings at Eagles (+3.5) (O/U: 39)

Steven: Let’s get this out of the way: I’m hitting the under hard. Both of these defenses are equipped to take out the opposing offense. As for the pick, I still think we’re selling the Eagles short here. I picked them last week based on that defensive line and I’ll take them again this week. Philly not only covers but wins straight-up in a 10-9 slugfest.

Charles: Ugh, Vegas delivered the perfect spread here. Bookmakers just dared you to back Nick Foles and bet against the Vikings’ stifling defense completely dismantling the Eagles’ offense. They’re also wondering if you can stomach the Vikes winning by more than a field goal with Case Keenum on the road facing Philly’s uber-tough pass rush. After going back and forth a bunch, I landed on the simplest explanation: The Vikings defense keeps Jay Ajayi from breaking out and the secondary picks off Foles three times. Minnesota 21, Philadelphia 10.

2018 NFL Total Team Wins Over/Under Betting Odds – Top 3 NFL Team Over/Under Predictions

New Orleans Saints(Bet to Win OVER 9.5 Games at Bovada) – Saints head coach Sean Payton got his team back on track last season finishing 11-5 overall after finishing 7-9 in each of the previous three seasons. Payton has himself a talented roster that is a legit Super Bowl contender this season as there is difference making talent on both sides of the ball. Future Hall of Fame quarterback Drew Brees continues to run the offense and he’s coming off of another solid season last year that saw him toss for 4334 yards and 23 touchdowns against just 8 interceptions. Brees has plenty of help on offense led by 2nd year star running back Alvin Kamara who is a threat to score from anywhere on the field. Kamara was a 3rd round pick out of Tennessee in 2017 but burst on the NFL scene by averaging 6.1 yards per carry which led all back in the NFL with at least 120 carries. Wide receiver Michael Thomas is Brees’ top receiving threat and caught 104 balls for 1245 yards and 5 touchdowns last year. The Saints finished 2nd in the NFL in total offense last year and should be in the top 5 easily again this season. The defense finished 17th in total defense last year and should be around the middle of the pack again in 2018.

San Francisco 49ers(Bet to Win OVER 8.5 Games at Bovada) – The buzz is back in the bay as the San Francisco 49ers finally secured a legit franchise quarterback talent to build around late in the season last year when they acquired quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo in a trade from New England. Jimmy G is a flat out stud who has yet to lose a game that he has started in the NFL(7-0 overall) and his acquisition could go down as one of the biggest NFL heists of all-time. He is that good. Look for the 49ers to be vastly improved from a scoring unit that ranked just 20th in the NFL last year at 20.7 points per game with Jimmy G running the show from week one this year. The 49ers defense is still a work in progress and finished just 25th in scoring defense last year at 23.9 points per game. The 49ers are probably a year away from being a legit NFC and Super Bowl contender but look for them to get their feet wet with a playoff appearance this season.

Los Angeles Rams(Bet to Win OVER 9.5 Games at Bovada) – The Rams busted out from years of being a laughing stock and after thought to an upper echelon NFL squad last year. Rookie head coach Sean McVay quieted all the doubters when he led the Rams to an impressive 11-5 regular season record while being the NFL’s youngest head coach. McVay has the Rams organization, players and fans thinking big this year as they have Super Bowl dreams and the roster is loaded with talent to give themselves a great shot at it. The Rams finished 10th in the NFL in total offense last season at 361.5 yards per game but finished tops in the NFL in scoring at 29.9 points per game. The Rams offense got even more speed added to it in the offseason when they traded for former New England wide receiver Brandin Cooks who gives quarterback Jared Goff a home run threat from anywhere on the field now. Defensively, the Rams finished 12th in pointes allowed at 20.6 points per game last year and should be improved after adding veteran defensive tackle Ndamukong Suh, cornerback Aqib Talib and cornerback Marcus Peters in the offseason.
